Gillette M3 Power Nitro Razor Review
Customer Reviews
This is a GREAT shaver!!! buy one and you'll see. I am a wetshaver. That means that I take the shaving experience to it's ultimate ends. I belong to all the shaving forums. I went from throw away razors to double edge vintage and antique razors. These were fine shavers. I then progressed to straight razor shaving. EVERY MAN should know how to use a straight razor :) . I have a pretty large collection of "user" straight razors. I strop them, I hone them... I have a spine injury that creates spasms from the pain...at times...I would slash my face regularly...One day, running late as usual, I tried my Son's M3 razor with a several day growth of beard. Shaved one pass against the grain got a BBS shave.. This is WONDERFUL. It gets into the nostril area and any hard to shave places are easy for this. I have nicked myself ZERO times. It makes me complacent when I shave with this. It is that good. Blades last a long time, the motor is always on when I use this. I still prep my face with hot water, use many different brushes and a wide variety of soaps and creams. QED Wild Rose from a groupbuy on TheShaveDen.com is my fav. The rose scent is terrific and very uplifting. YES! I have a lot of creams and soaps..I still gravitate to this FO glycerin soap. I haven't told any of my buds on the DE or STRAIGHT RAZOR forums that I use an M3 EDC basis.. :) Tom

Lowepro Nova 160 AW Camera Bag Review
With the ever increasing number of photographers armed with advanced amateur cameras and compact digital SLRs, Lowepro was eager to bring a solid compact camera bag to the market. Lowepro's newest compact beltpack offering – the Nova 160 AW – offers photographers everything they need for a compact camera kit in one easy-to-use weatherproof design. On the surface the look and feel of the Nova 160 AW is quite conventional for a compact camera bag that doubles as either a shoulder bag or beltpack. If you look a little deeper you'll find the Nova 160 AW offers a few unique elements that make it a worthwhile travel companion.
Specifications:
- Capacity: 1 DSLR with lens (18-55mm or 17-85mm f/3.5-5.6) plus 1-2 additional lenses
- Memory cards and a flash unit
- Size (Interior): 7.9"W X 4.3"D X 6.7"H
- Size (Exterior): 9.4"W X 6.9"D X 8.7"H
- Exterior construction: 840D Nylon and 600D Polyester
- Interior construction: 200D Polyester
- Weight: 1.14 lbs
Design and Construction
Lowepro's Nova series bags come in multiple sizes, with the smaller 160 AW that we used for this review recommended for compact DSLRs and all-in-one enthusiast cameras. In terms of build quality, Lowepro is well known for high quality standards, and the Nova 160 AW is no exception. Thick ballistic nylon exteriors, smooth polyester interiors, solid stitching, and thick padding help make the Nova 160 AW a superior product. The various zippers feel rugged, Velcro camera compartment dividers stay firmly in place, and even the accessory pockets feel like they can handle some abuse. In terms of padding, Lowepro provides ample padding around core compartment and accessory pockets; with a camera and accessories stored inside, everything feels safe and secure.
The one minor issue I had with the build quality was that the hardware used on the shoulder strap (the clips that connect the strap to the case) are made of plastic and felt like they wouldn't handle serious abuse. On a similar note, the belt loops used for attaching the case to your belt are fine for a normal belt, but are too small to conveniently fit on the Lowepro Street & Field modular belt pack system (an odd thing since this case might make a good addition for Street & Field belt users).
The "AW" in the name of the Nova 160 AW stands for "All Weather" thanks to the inclusion of weatherproof cover that wraps around the entire case. Although I'm glad to see the accessory rain cover with the Nova 160 AW, I can't say using it was entirely practical. Specifically, I found it rather difficult to rapidly deploy the rain cover in the field, and because of the design of the rain cover it was easy to accidentally wrap the rain cover around the case inside out...preventing the case from opening and closing correctly. Since the Nova 160 AW is targeted at nature photographers and urban photojournalists who need to access camera quickly in a range of environments, we would have liked to see a simpler weather-resistant design.
Cargo Space and CapacityInternally, the Nova 160 AW is laid out much like many other top-loading DSLR shoulder bags or beltpacks, with Velcro-in-place dividers that you can customize to fit your needs. The overflap lid provides a little extra protection from the elements and also offers a place to store memory cards. There is abundant padding between the camera gear compartments. Lowepro officially states the Nova 160 AW holds "1 DSLR with lens attached (18-55mm or 17-85mm f/3.5-5.6) plus 1-2 additional lenses; 2 memory cards and a flash unit." In practice, I found that larger DSLR bodies with normal zoom lenses just didn't fit inside this beltpack, and the Nova 160 AW is really only suited for compact DSLRs and kit lenses or small prime lenses.
In Use
Over the shoulder, the strap on the Nova 160 AW offers plenty of padding and is comfortable to carry for a bag of this size. When used as a beltpack the Nova 160 AW becomes an even more versatile "hands free" camera bag, making it easy to access your camera kit while hiking. The only slightly negative aspect of the beltpack use (as mentioned before) is that the belt loops are a bit too snug around my Lowepro Street & Field belt.
I had no problem using the Nova 160 AW with a Pentax *ist DL camera and three Pentax prime lenses. I also found it nice for carrying a Nikon Coolpix P5100 with accessory lenses and an external flash. However, a Pentax K10D with battery grip was just too large to use with this case.
Conclusions
Overall, the Lowepro Nova 160 AW is a solid, functional compact bag that works well in the field. If you've ever hesitated to bring your camera with you because of a bulky camera bag then you know why this compact shoulder/beltpack makes perfect sense. Although the interior storage isn't big enough for professional-level DSLRs, many average consumers will likely find the size of this bag perfect for vacation and weekend photo opportunities.
Photographers who often find themselves in wet environments will probably find the all-weather rain cover a little frustrating to quickly use/and or remove. Still, the Nova 160 AW is a pretty nice compact camera bag and deserves a spot on your shopping list.
Pros:
- Plenty of room for all-in-one camera and accessories or a compact SLR with kit lens and
- extra lens or batteries
- Excellent padding
- Rugged build quality
- Belt loop a little snug for Lowepro belt
- Shoulder strap hardware feels a little weak
- Weatherproof cover isn't easy to quickly use

Canon Powershot G10 Preview
Most interesting to me are the G10’s 28mm equivalent wide-angle lens and the Servo AF auto focus. One of my main complaints when I reviewed the G9
was the lens wasn’t wide enough. And I think a 28mm wide end takes care of that problem. Regarding the Servo AF feature - there are a lot of pro photographers anxiously waiting for a compact camera that can perform like a DSLR. A couple of the missing elements are reaction time and auto focus performance. The PowerShot G10 looks like it may have significant improvements in those areas. Servo AF is an indicator of Canon’s intention to make this a high-performance camera. But as always, it’s best to reserve judgment until we have an actual camera in-hand to test. Right now all we can do is speculate
Control Options
The controller wheel is equipped with a dedicated Exposure Compensation Dial, which allows quick and intuitive adjustment of exposure compensation and the “My Menu” function for registering five user-selected options from the shooting menu, as well as 26 shooting modes. Additionally, the Custom Mode better allows the user to record two types of shooting parameter settings, thus offering the ability to arrange their most often used settings on their LCD display. A host of accessory options are offered, including the remote switch, Macro Ring Lite and Macro Twin Lite (when used with an additional attachment, available in January 2009). Now consumers can utilize similar accessories found in the Canon EOS line, therefore expanding a user’s ability to customize.
Canon DIGIC 4 Imaging Processor
The newly upgraded DIGIC 4 image processor, a proprietary technology, accounts for the camera’s higher performance levels, including significantly improved signal processing speed and higher image quality.
One of the most important new features made possible by the DIGIC 4 image processor is Servo AF, which is a form of continuous focus tracking for moving subjects. By pressing the shutter button half-way, the camera can track subject movement up to the instant of exposure, resulting in sharper photographs. Additionally, the processor’s high ISO speed noise reduction processing has improved substantially to enable consumers to shoot high-quality images, even in extremely dark situations without the use of a flash. The new Intelligent Contrast Correction function automatically improves image quality in high-contrast shooting situations.
The Genuine Canon Face Detection technology has evolved even further, thanks to DIGIC 4. Improved features include the ability to recognize human faces at most angles. Another innovation is the Face Detection Self-Timer, which automatically takes a photo two seconds after a new face enters the scene.
Availability and Pricing
Scheduled to be available in October, the PowerShot G10 digital camera will have an estimated selling price of $499.99*. Kit contents will include a battery, charger, neck strap, USB and A/V interface cables, Canon Digital Solutions Software CD, and a 1-year Canon U.S.A., Inc. limited warranty.

Flip Video Mino Full Review
Most of the 3.3-ounce Mino is about redesign. The USB connector now flips straight up, rather than to the side, for an overall more compact footprint that should fit better in a crowded USB environment. It has a slightly smaller transflective LCD display--1.46 inches compared with 1.5 inches--that enables you to still see what's on the screen in bright daylight. The back navigation controls are snazzier than before, with touch-sensitive buttons embedded into a shiny, flush surface. The port for the AV output has been shifted down slightly and is smaller (it's smaller than the standard 2.5mm jack--a cable is included). And finally, the threaded tripod mount has been moved from the left side of the bottom of the camera to the center.
Like the 60-minute version of the Ultra, the Mino comes equipped with 2GB of memory, capable of storing 60 minutes of its VGA-resolution video (the rechargeable battery gives you about 4 hours of shooting time). And finally, you can now pause and rewind/fast-forward your videos in camera (previous models didn't have this feature).
Overall, we like the new design and appreciate it mostly for being even more pocketfriendly. We also like the new touch-sensitive buttons, which are responsive--but not too responsive. Along with the aforementioned AV cable for viewing videos on your TV, you also get a chamois-style carrying pouch that doubles as a cloth to wipe down your Mino. While the white model doesn't show fingerprints and grime like the black version does, the white Mino does show dust and fibers, so the carry pouch comes in handy for cleaning duties for both models.
For the Ultra, the company moved to what it calls the "Pure Digital Video engine 2.0." The Mino has a new 2.5 engine, which features a next-generation video chip. The incremental gain may be slight, but it helps keep the Mino--in terms of video quality--ahead of competitors from RCA and Creative. The Mino exhibits slightly sharper images with more vibrant colors--and it performs very well in low-light environments. The camcorder also has an updated--more sensitive--microphone with improved signal processing.
All that said, it's important to note that the Mino, like the cadre of other straight-to-Web camcorders, produces video that's on a par with what you'll see from relatively inexpensive still digital cameras that have improved video-capture modes. And some of those models, like the comparably priced
Speaking of bundled software, we didn't notice any truly significant changes to the Flip Video software that ships with the Mino, other than to note that along with YouTube and AOL, MySpace is a new partner for the company. In addition, the Mino now supports direct operation on a Mac, without requiring software installation.
Previously, you had limited manual-editing and clip-compiling capabilities. Now the company adds software from Muvee that takes the moviemaking process to a new level. You simply select the clips you like, click a button, and a few minutes later, the software spits out a movie "mix" complete with transitions and special effects and even some background music (you can also choose to add your own background music).
We'd seen demos of Muvee's full desktop application and have been impressed with its capabilities. It can take fairly boring video and make it seem pretty jazzy--or better yet, amusing. A handful of movie-mix styles are currently available, some more stylized than others. With its standalone PC software, Muvee offers you the option of buying additional "StyleLabs," but it's unclear at this point whether Pure Digital will include new ones with future software upgrades. Unfortunately, the Muvee software is still not available for Mac users. And the Xvid MPEG-4-encoded AVI clips still aren't directly importable into iMovie.
One of the key selling points of Flip Video cameras is how easy it is to get videos off the camera and distribute them. To get started, you flip out the USB connector and plug it into the USB port on your Windows (Windows 2000/XP or later) or Mac (OS X or later) machine and a link to the camcorder's integrated software quickly pops up. You can play back one clip, string several together to make the aforementioned movie mix, pull a single frame (still photo) out of the video, and share your clips with selected viewers via e-mail or the Web. When sharing via e-mail, instead of attaching a large file (even short 20-second clips can result in a 12MB to 13MB file), recipients are sent a link to your compressed video. It looks worse than your raw video footage, but it doesn't look bad.
Aside from the fact that it can take several minutes for your video file to be processed, sharing a file is very simple. Click on the "Share Video" button in the software interface and you're taken to a screen that asks you to select a video clip and choose to share it via e-mail, share a greeting (send a private video card), or share it online.
To publish directly to YouTube, AOL, or MySpace, you'll need to create an account for each service and log in. But once you do, you can automatically upload your videos to the Web for private or public viewing with a click of a button. If you're allied to some other video-sharing site, a click of a button allows you to prepare the video for uploading, but you'll have to manually upload the processed file from a folder on your desktop.
Pure Digital has also announced a make-your-own-DVD service; you upload up to an hour's worth of video to a special Web site to have it burned to a DVD, which then gets distributed to your family and friends at $19.99 a pop. The company also claims you can "keep your videos archived forever," but remember that "forever" doesn't mean the same thing to companies as it does to people.
In the end, despite a couple of small gripes, we came away feeling good about the Mino. The more compact design makes the device even more pocket-friendly than the Ultra and the addition of the rechargeable battery will save you money in the long run (because you don't have to keep buying batteries). While 2GB of memory will be ample for most people, we would have appreciated an expansion slot for more memory and it's a bit irritating that the battery isn't removable and replaceable.
The big question, of course, is whether the Mino is worth $80 or $90 more than competing models from Creative and RCA, or $30 more than the company's own Flip Video Ultra, or if it has the same value as a similarly priced but more full-featured digital camera. They're all debatable--and ideally the Mino would cost less than $150--but when you're No. 1 in your category, you can frequently get away with charging a little more.
